View Full Version : Pocket Tanks for the Nintendo DS?
I've dreamed about this for a ling time now... Imagine how you could bring Pocket Tanks with you, no matter if there were a PC nearby.
The game could be played with the controls on the bottom screen. Touch to choose your weapon... Drag up the power with the stylus. And press FIRE to watch those beautifull and cool effects on the upper screen.
Anyone else think this would be cool? :) But I guess the problem is to find a publisher...

That would be great, but production would be tough and you could only have the initial weapons available, making new weapon packs useless.
Unless...
If you start off with the starting 60 weapons, then have the rest of them be unlockable through a "money" system. It would be even better if you used the Wi-fi feature to upload weapon packs.
Therefore, it could work.

It would indeed. I hear there are all sorts of complications with doing something like that. Takes up time, and you have to sell your firstborn child to Nintendo.

PSP could be another option...

Yeah, I'd prefer PSP. It's a bigger market after all.

It would be better for DS. Wifi allows new weapon paks.

Both Systems are capable of Wi-fi... and Personally I think it would be better for Gamegear!!! :D or Gameboy Color!!! :)
And while were at it... The only hand held System I have is the Gameboy Advance... Why not... I think this game would be great on any handheld... I wouldn't mind seeing a PS2 or Gamecube version... or even Xbox...Anything outside of a PC would be cool...

The PSP is more popular, therefore there's more chance that Pocket Tanks on PSP would sell more than the same game for any other portable format.

You know brian...my firstborn child will go straight to the cause. We'll name it Blitwise and ship it right off in a glass bubble.

Don't do it! No... please... no...
The PSP is more popular, therefore there's more chance that Pocket Tanks on PSP would sell more than the same game for any other portable format. The Nintendo DS has sold nearly twice the number of units than the PSP.

Now, Ben, let's not try and confuse people with numbers and statistics. I'm sure what he means is that it is more POPULAR, meaning that, if there are twice as many DS owners as PSP owners, the PSP owners each love their PSP twice as much as the DS owners love their DS. Hence, there is more popularity, more love floating around for the PSP, regardless of crass sales figures.
In the immortal words of John Lennon, "All you need is love...and a very small screen on which to watch movies."

Who needs portable? Just take your laptop wherever you go! Don't have one? Buy one! I got a 2000 laptop, 119 memory and i think 5 gbs space for 50$ of ebay, it was a buy it now. The thing is the size of 2 gamecube game cases put together side by side. Its an IBM, but hey, pocket tanks became portable for me as of then :)

I have a DS and PSP, and franky the touch screen on the DS makes it my personal favorite. None the less, a version of Pocket Tanks on 'any' handheld system would be very cool indeed.
Perhaps I'll develop a GP2X version first, just for fun. I could use an excuse to buy one of those. Any portable gizmo that plays C64 games is alright with me. If only the GP2X had a touch screen...

Hey, Maybe you could make it for palm pilot! But the thing I would want to see the most(as far as handhelds go)Is Pocket taks on ds. It could have the terrain and tanks on top screen and the power, angle, weapon, ect. on the lower screen!

Forget the rest, Pocket PC is the way to go. with all those PDA's out there, and mobile phones with Win Mobile on them, plus it's a more "adult" market. That's the way to go! PPC please.

Plus, Palm isn't even doing Palm OS anymore! Pretty much nobody is doing Palm OS.

I Think that it would be a cool Idea that if you Made Pocket Tanks for the DS if you encorperated the expansion packs in to the GameBoy Advanced Slot. Like if Wi-FI never worked out you just sold a game pack you could just slide in the bottom. Ooo even better... if you make a connector that attached INTO the bottom and let you upload the expansion files from your computer if you already owned it.

I actually thought of everything to make this a reality for the DS:
Since the screen is smaller on the DS, you could make it so that you have a overview of the entire landscape on the top screen and a normal view of a piece of the land on the bottom (normal as in basicly the tanks look the same size as in the PC version and this would be the default) also you could change how much of the landscape you look at on the bottom screen(zooming in and out). Then you could swich the screens with L or R so that you cold use the overview to change the piece you are looking at, then swich the screens back. Also when you fire a weapon you can see where it's going on the overview screen, as well as the piece of land you are looking at on the bottom screen.
And people would love to use the touch screen for aiming(basicly the same way as with a mouse).
And the same features should be in the DS version including LAN games that are compatable with both versions (DS and PC). Also there should be a basic direct wireless connection option strictly for the DS, incase some people don't have a LAN network.
And of course you would have to make the weaopn packs for the DS version too. And speaking of two different verisons, there should be a version for a DS cartridge that would have the game pre-installed with some free space for new weapon packs and another version for the 3rd party devices, such as the M3 or R4. And all the versions should be able to have the in-game option to go to the internet and download new weapon packs via your website.
