I've been addicted to DX-Ball for years. In fact, I've been addicted to the breakout genre, DX-Ball's fault. ^^
Today I had to format my HD and just saved stuff I couldn't download back. During the process of downloading some stuff, I went download DX-Ball. The site I visited claimed that the producer was Blitwize. I was like WTH?!(When I first played DX-Ball I searched for a site with no success, and I had heard that the author as dead or something :P) Wasn't it Michael P. Welch and Seumas McNally with no mension of a company besides LDA, wich made DX-Ball2???
I checked it, already downloaded both of your new games and now I think I'll leave DX-Ball and play Super DX-Ball instead ^^
But then I have to make a question. I've heard rumors that, as DX-Ball is the first, DXB2 the second and SDXB is the third, a fourth game is on the making. Is that true?
I'd also like to make a suggestion. Your motive was to keep the old games alive and bring them to the new generations, or something. But what about a mix of genres making something never seen before?(I don't know you, but I've had enough RPGs, unless it's something new like Sigma Star Saga) Just mix 2 games on your mind: Arkanoid. Space Invaders(actually just think about vertical scrollers). Thought about throwing balls at alien ships? ^^
There could be various types of balls(weapons). A normal one, that bounces on the screen a few times(if it goes off the bottom it'll hit the thing you need to protect, like you're escorting a mother ship, and you'll lose a life, since it's friendly fire you get a warning, when you lose all lifes you are fired from the job). A fireball, that does the same but go through enemies(all of them have a certain amount of health, if the ball goes throught fast, it could not deal enough damage to destroy the enemy). An ice ball, that freezes on touch. A plasma(or lazer, or whatever) ball, does more damage but vanishes faster(or doesn't even bounce). A chained ball, you can only use one, it have double the power and you can recoil it to shoot again. There could be many more ball types.
Also, you could buy upgrades to your ship, like more ball shots(inicially only one), shield(actually for the thing you need to protect).
You'd need to also reflect enemy shots with your paddle, powerups/upgrades(activated by you when you want?) could make you absorb the shots instead of bouncing back(having too many shots on screen could make you miss a few, wich is bad). Enemy shots can kill them too(and the thing you want to protect, not only the paddle), but are weaker. If you don't have the equipment to not suffer damage from a certain type of shot, then you'd need to choose to take the damage or let the thing you protect take the hit, both have health gauges.
As an extra, the 'paddleship'(I like the name ^^) could have various paintings, or even be variou types of 'paddleships', one that's faster, another one that 's stronger in defence... The upgrades you buy could also change the appearance, like in DX-Ball, where the sides of the paddle become red when it has guns(the engines could change color based on the engine you own, for example).
I guess that's it.
I'd just like to ask 2 things: if you make a game like it to put my name on the thanks section of the credits and to let me define one painting of the 'paddleship', that would definetly make me feel good. ^^
Oh, and keep making those games, who plays them a first time never plays them once ;)
