Just a quick announcement to say that, for the time being at least, I've decided to let you guys edit your own posts indefinitely, rather than the previous 30 minutes or 1 day. This has been discussed and debated amongst yourselves, and I see no harm in allowing this, provided it is used for the purpose it is intended. Primarily, it is for threads where information from later posts is edited into the first post for ease of use, and other utilitarian posts like that. Of course, you can still edit for other reasons, but most of those reasons could also have been done within the first 30 minutes. If you made a horrifying spelling mistake and everyone posted about it for 4 straight hours, there's no point going back and editing it now. ;)

So, if it passes 30 minutes, we can't edit? Or can we just EDIT, period?
EDIT: nevermind

We should be able to lock or delete our own threads

okay, just asking.
Because I made a new thread and wasn't able to delete it.
I had to delete it because the info on it should have been in another thread, as to not clutter the forums.

Is there any way to delete a thread just after you made it (say, by accident?)

Great! Editing is a must for all forums, I hate it when I screw up my post by accident and I cannot change it.
Oh, deleting your own posts would be good. JUST deleting, locking is pretty much pointless. But mods would still have access to deleted threads (just in case someone insults somebody else and then deletes his/her post)

But I mean SPECIFICALLY new threads. I'm wondering how or if there is a way that you can delete them if there is a mistake in them.

I'd say we should have the ability to delete (or lock) our own topics, but this action would become unavailable if five posts were posted in the thread. This would be a nice quick way to kill mistake topics...

It would be a cool feature as long as you wouldn't use it against people in any way.

I'm a bit hesitant to allow users to delete their own threads. I'm not sure how complicated we can make the commands, such that, as revived said, they can't be deleted after a certain number of posts. From what I've seen, it's pretty much just a box that I can check or uncheck, so that it doesn't matter if your thread has 1 or 100 posts. I'll think about it and talk to Ben if it seems necessary.

In most of the forums I visit, you can delete your own thread as long as no one posts in it... after a post... It's off limits to the average user... If I remember correctly at the Gamefaqs forum.. you have to wait like 20 minutes or something like that, and if noone posts then you can delete it... Would be nice if someone accidently posts their thread twice... but otherwise, I don't see the need for it...

It actually is probably the safest route to leave the stuff/moderating/deletion to Ben.

You can always have the option of PMing a mod/admin and asking them to delete a thread. But that can get tiring and I am sure the mods/admins have better things to do then to drown in a sea of PM's.
You do not need to lock your thread, a simple deletion option will suffice. And so what if a thread has 100 posts? If the user feels it is necessary to delete it so be it. Of course if the thread is full of flames/insults/etc the user who created the thread might only delete it because he doesn't want a ban, but a moderator can always see the deleted posts.
