Hello to all and sundry! I have a little bit of news for you, and a beta release. Here, for your sharewaring enjoyment, is the beta shareware version of Pocket Tanks. It features such long awaited updates as a Weapon Toggle function and the ability to mute music and sound.

Click here to download (http://downloads.blitwise.com/ptanks109a_beta.exe).

We could really use your help testing this on a widespread level, and I'd like to thank all of you for your patience. The official v.1.1 should be out on Friday if all goes well!

Haha.. 1st reply.
Well.. let me be the first to say it looks great! One thing that I first noticed was that the other weapon packs don't work with this version. Will this be different when the complete version of this is released?
Also.. 99 moves? Ha.. is that going to be the same in the new version? Or will we have a choice of how many moves there are in a game?
Try removing all weapons except one.. it's funny lol.

Hmm... Nice... will network play be part of the deluxe release? or is this still a no go...

Btw... There don't seem to be any issues that I know of... on my little computer...

I doubt Network Play will be released

This beta is the shareware version of the game, which does not include support for expansion packs. Registered owners of Pocket Tanks Deluxe will receive v1.1 when it's available... Friday hopefully.

It should be only 4 moves when playing a real game, and 99 moves when in Target Practice mode. I'm still thinking about adding the number of moves to the option screen.

FYI - We are actively working on network play. Gameplay is not very reliable over a connection where packs can be lost, so it's still in pre-alpha testing. In the next release or two, it 'should' be good enough to to happily play over a local network, or IP-to-IP over the internet with a bit of work. The internet game lobby is a ways off, but I have high hopes. :)

K omg =[ Get a beta for mac... everything is for pc. If you'd be able to , why not hire a person who can make the game into a mac while u guys are working on the game. Like makes the game into mac by scratch ... instead of doing that hard stuff.

So far i tested a few things for common bugs, nothing. I believe this is more than a beta release!

Only problem I saw was when you click enter to talk in one player mode, whenever you say something it says the computer is talking, not like that matters, but still a bug.
Edit: I take that back. Whenever you chat no matter who's turn it is, whenever something is typed it says the computer is saying it. Also in 2 player mode it says the 2nd player is always talking, no matter who's turn it is.

I also had a problem with resizing the screen. I could never get it to go back into full screen after I hit a screen option.

Yeah I think there should be an option to choose amount of moves, that'd be cool.

We don't do the Mac versions. They're done by Mike Austin over at CTSP Games, and I'm sure he'll have something out for you Mac users soon.

Bert - That avatar makes me laugh every time. :)
(and yes, I know about the original animation)

Chat key? What chat key? hehe

I'll um... ah... remove that from the 1 Player, 2 Player, and Target Practice games. It's only good for Network games. ;)

You may want to try hitting F8 key to switch between fullscreen stretched/centered modes. "Centered fullscreen" It's really only useful for folks with LCD screens that want to play the game in the desktop resolution.

And of course, F7 is the windowed/fullscreen key, in case anyone out there know already.

I tried F7, but for some reason it didn't work in the beta. It works in the regular verson though. :)

Hum... F7 works fine for me in the new version. You can always try hitting Alt-Enter to toggle windowed/fullscreen as well. Does that work?

If somebody walks me through it, and anybody cares, I can compile it run outside of WINE in Linux.

Alright, I thought it would only make sense in network play, does that chat key work fine in network play, or have you not tested it yet?

Actually, it does work fine in a Network Game. I never thought to try it on a local game. Thanks for the head's up. :)

AMD 3000XP system, 1 gig memory, 256 meg ATI graphics, Windows XP and all SR's installed. Loads faster than previous release. AI a tad better than before. On skill ten beat the computer 7 out of ten instead of previous 9 out of 10.

Hate the sounds as you randomly select weapons. Almost enough to turn the sound off.

Like the AI tank moving to better firing position, that's good. Graphics fine.

Would be nice to have a selection of sound tracks, or something new please.

Want the network or internet play very badly please, very very badly. Soon please!

I'll reconsider the sound effects when Random is selected... not sure if I'll change the sounds, or just not play them.

I'm glad to hear that the computer is a little harder to beat now. My goal was not to make the computer player smarter... my goal was to make it look less stupid. :)

(AI that moves the tank as well as fires line-of-sight weapons correctly goes a long way)

FYI - We're working hard on getting the network code ready for prime time.

And thanks to everyone for testing! We'll probably have the official v1.1 release available tomorrow.

Yeah, I probably won't be able to get till probably Thursday for two reasons.

1. Can't find the link to the mail in form.
2. Don't have $15.99.

But I can use my lunch money I guess. :) :o :(
