Wouldn't it be the perfect platform for a game of pocket tanks?...just sayin...actually, it would be sweet on any of the portables out there. I remember my friend emailed mike in the days before these forums and pitched the idea, he said it would be nice but he [understandably] doubts it will ever happen. But lol yeah i'll stop ranting, point is, wouldnt it rock.
Yes, indeedy. There'd be problems with updating, though.
Hmm... interesting idea...
The aim, power, weapon select, and move could be on the bottom, and the fight on top. :)

That'd be sweet!
Though yeah, the updating thing... Maybe they could be distributed through the WiFi... Somehow... Maybe... Blah.

It might be possible to update through WiFi, but it would have to be stored somewhere. Unless you want to download the update every time you want to play, there's two choices: flashcard or other homebrew device, or a large amount of space for saving the update. Either those, or don't update it...

Hmm... Tough choice, but I think I'll go with 'those'. Updating's half the fun, after all! Well... Not really... Maybe around one tenth, I suppose... Maybe...

You'd probably have better luck getting pocket tanks to work on the Wii.
Yes, it would be awesome. I made a topic about it in the beginning of this forum.

Oh yeah! There will be a Wii-Channel where you can buy and download games from smaller developers. Pocket Tanks is PERFECT suited for the Wii!
With the clean, stylish graphics and simple gameplay.

I wouldn't consider that "lucky" he had to pay $70 over the regular price  . I'm getting mine this Sunday, for regular price! Got to wait a few hours in line though
My friend got a Wii a few days after it was released, his dad pre-ordered it for him because he won a $50 discount.:)

Not very long! Lucky him!;)
We're getting a bit off-topic, aren't we...

Pocket Tanks for the DS? I'd buy it.
Wii does sound possible, considering someone's bound to figure out how to hack the system very soon I imagine, or something.
Also, what about PSP pocket tanks?

You wouldn't NEED to hack it. It comes with internet connectivity, and I'm sure you can download stuff onto it.

Pocket Tanks DS would be amazing but I'm sure it would cost quite a bit to produce something like that and all the programming needed would be completly different from the PC. Blitwise would have to hire people who know that type of coding and hope for the best. I'm sure it would be very fun indeed. Neon Wars and Super DX Ball would be fun too. The DS would be great for all of these games.

I could see Neon Wars on DS the most, but I don't really see Pocket Tanks or DX-Ball working. With Neon Wars you could actually take that little pen and move your ship around.

Well, for DX ball all you have to do is move the stylus left to right for the paddle and to fire the laser just hit the d-pad or the shoulder buttons (L and R) and as far as Pocket Tanks, it most linkely would be att D-pad and button based with stylus options to hit buttons on the touch screen. When you select a weapon, it zooms out on the feild so you can aim at the other player. When you fire, it just follows the projectile/laster/ect untill it hits the area it should land in. Maybe Pocket Tanks would work better on the PSP, it having a bigger screen and all and it could have memory downloads for upgrades. That would probably work better.

DS-Dual screens, means it's probably bigger. Game on top screen, movement/power/angle on the bottom. [For pocket tanks]. As a control scheme, you could have up and down on the D-Pad be Angle, and left and right for power. Move with the L and R buttons. Control weapons/do manual power/angle control with stylus.

I'm a 'huge' Nintendo DS fan, and PTanks DS is something I'd love to develop. Blitwise has made a few strides in that direction, and it's well within the realm of possibility.
We'd definitely have a scrolling/zooming screen on top with the terrain and tanks, then the angle, power, weapon, etc... would be on the bottom.
The DS is my favorite gizmo. I do enjoy the GP2X and we actually have the Blitwise running on it, Thanks to Ben. The PSP is great as well, but I sure do miss the touchscreen.

When you said "huge" does that mean your huge or just that your a huge fan. Lol. So do you have a DS and a PSP? I have a DS but not a DS Lite, I really don't know the difference, or haven't looked to find one. And the only game I have for the DS is Advance Wars 3. Hey I wonder if the X-box will come out with a hand held?

A DS Lite is a sleeker looking version of the DS, if you'll notice, Nintendo does this all the time, Gameboy/Gameboy Pocket/Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance/Gameboy Advance SP, Old DS Phat/DS Lite, i had a DS they are truly a great system, but i seen that my friend liked it more and i sold it to him at cost for 60 bucks...i had my PSP anyhoo lol...they're both good systems tho

Omg that would rule! My DS has cobwebs on it, because the games are so boring and crap.

The DS is a fun system indeed. I have one, though I haven't used it much. As a matter of fact, I haven't played any consoles much since I took up World of Warcraft. First, it's addictive, and second, with a console game, you buy it, and you play it, or not. But the money is gone. With WoW...I pay every month. Every minute I'm not playing is like money wasted. Third, my wife started playing too...and that makes it even more fun.
I went back a few weeks ago and played a bit with some of my favorite RPGs from the past, but it wasn't the same. I find myself asking, "Why can't I skin and gut my fallen prey?" "Why can't I brutally mock my defeated enemies?" "Where is the /spit macro?" Actually, I find myself asking that in real life a great deal, too.

All of the games on the DS either rock or suck :D Not anything inbetween.

I would disagree on that. There is always an in between. :)

I own a DS, DS Lite, and a PSP... as well as a GBA, GBA SP, GBA Micro... original GameBoy, Gameboy Pocket, etc...
Needless to say, I like Nintendo handheld gaming systems.
I like the PSP, but I prefer the style of games coming out for the DS. The PSP is a sleek and expensive piece of technology and the DS is durable system with a touch screen. I have kids... and I don't ever let them touch the PSP. There's something to be said for accessibility, and the DS is the clear winner in that regard.

Do you not let your kids use your PSP, because its expensive or because it has internet capabilities? Oh, and I recently just found out that you can buy something for your DS to connect with the internet so you can download free stuff for it. There coming out with something like that for the Nintendo Wii in January :) which I am very happy about, because right now I can't afford a Wireless Router or a Switchbox. :(

Opera web browser is for DS and Wii. Wii can connect to internet through WiFi, or some kind of adaption to cable-limited internet.

the problem with PT on the DS or anything with a touchscreen is that for changing the angle and power in large amounts, you have to click and then move the mouse, not click and drag, and clicking and moving is impossible on a touchscreen.

yes there are definitely some flaws, but there must be ways around it...it would definitely not be exactly like the pc version...
the power you can just click and drag that red bar, but very the angle, maybe make an identical (well, similar) different color bar that also needs dragged to change the angle in large amounts.

A DS version of pocket tanks would certaintly not be a bad idea... though it would be tough to make the DS version better then the PC...

How is clicking and moving impossible on a touch screen? Metroid Prime: Hunters does it just fine. You looks around and switch weapons with the touchscreen, and switching subweapons is done by holding the stylus down on an icon, and dragging the stylus to whatever weapon it is that you want to use.
EDIT: Whoops... Just realized that I misread your post... Anyways, it can still be done. The U.I. doesn't have to be the same. Actually, that would make less sense than making a new one... What's the point of porting it to a new device if you don't take advantage of all(some, most, whatever) of it's features? Who knows, it could end up that we get knobs or an arc that you can tap in and where you tap on the arc sets the angle... It's all up to the developer(s?)

If I'm not mistaken, The PSP has Wifi... and at the very least it can go through a PS3... Not to mention that it supports Memory Cards.... Your kinda stuck with Cartridges on the DS... BTW... I don't have either... I'm just throwing in my opinion...

The DS is more durable. My uncle has a PSP and it is fragile. My friend broke theirs when it fell two feet. Also, its battery stinks. 3 hours for games. I'd go with DS.

Yes but remember, this thread specifically says "DS" in the title, not "PSP" which is why we are coming up with reasons for the DS instead of coming up with reasons for the PSP.
