Based on a couple suggestions in the Site Suggestions (http://forums.blitwise.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4312) thread, we've added a new theme and enabled the forum's reputation system.

You can change themes in the User Control Panel (http://forums.blitwise.com/forums/usercp.php) -> Edit Options -> Forum Skin or use the dropdown menu in the forum's footer. If you find any bugs (especially any errors about a security token), please report them to me. You can use the Contact Us (http://forums.blitwise.com/forums/sendmessage.php) link.

The reputation system is a way for the community to reward good quality posts. It should not be used as a popularity system. Posters slowly gain points which they can use to influence others' reputation. If you like a post, give them positive reputation points! Negative reputation points should be used sparingly, and not for simply disagreeing. We don't want to have to disable the reputation system due to abuse.

To contribute to reputation, there is a button on each users' posts. In the default themes, it appears as a circle/disk. In the Serenity theme, it appears as the [Rep] button. A user's reputation appears under their post count.

We hope you enjoy these new features! :)

I'm announcing in announcements that we have an uber necro-posting bot in our midst. (Obviously)
I advice to not reply to said posts.

I just noticed that when you give someone reputation it rounds your reputation to the nearest 10 points then divides it by 10 and gives the quotent to the post/person you want to give it to.
Anyone else noticed this?

There are 2 types of reps:
1. +ve one - denoted by a grey cylinder
2. -ve one - denoted by a black cylinder.

But when I checked my UserCP today, I had a cylinder which was half grey and half black. What does that mean?

I got one of those also, who knows. Maybe someone gave you a negative in that thread, while someone else gave you a positive.

it means they tried to give you rep, but they encountered then "you must spread rep before giving to that user" error.

basically, it means they tried to rep you up or down, but it turned out null and void.

i have one of those from dmac.

I have a grey one (remember that my scheme is in colour) from dmac. Upon saving the image, it's titled repneutral or something of the sort.

I assumed at the time that it meant rep was given, but the user did not have high enough a value for their given rep to count towards the recipient's.

How do you know who gave the rep you just got?

Samail

When people say "+rep".

Val81

Or "-rep", but you'll very rarely hear that.

But there's no way of knowing that, if the giver doesn't mention it in a post, right?

Samail

That seems rather obvious, yes...

Look in your User CP. First thing it will show is "latest reputation received"

Yeah, but it does not show the name of the member who gave it.

Knew that was going to be the next response.
Just think about it for a little while...

And apparently I fail at subtraction, as I somehow confused it with the button for addition...

The rep system doesn't even matter to me, kinda like the gamer score on Xbox Live, it's just there.

I've always wanted Microsoft to do this when someone signs off of X-Box Live :3

Ow... I must've been away for too long.

What's the difference in functionality between the rep. system and the post-count ranking?

You can handle your post count.
Others handle your rep.

hi chameleon,

with firefox, you can just add a live bookmark so you can check if there are new posts without having to go to your My Yahoo page. and you dont need a Yahoo account for it.
