Hello fellow blitwasians!

I have been thinking... we have a lot of information lying around this site, why not compile it and any future information in a wiki? So, guess what I did, I made a wiki... and with that wiki is the birth of Pocketpedia!

As soon as you register, you are able to edit and create new pages, which hopefully in the near future, will be full of information. As of right now, it hasn't gone far, and doesn't look very nice. So, please come in and help me.

If you guys don't believe this will go anywhere, its only because you choose that path. There are more then enough members here right now to create a wiki that will be constantly updated and up-to-date.

And remember, this is OUR wiki, not mine. I wont be able to do a fraction of what we can all do together, so lets get moving!

Regardless, I am still creating pocketpedia. It uses a different editor then wikia (Wetpaint), and its a completely different wiki, so that much the better.

But the introduction of that wiki probably deters people from actually helping me work on mine... oh, and one more thing to say to save my wiki from complete abandonation:

It's not YOUR Wiki; wikias are meant to be projects worked on by cooperating groups and individuals across the net, to create the sum total of human knowledge.

When did the creator of Wikipedia EVER claim credit to any pages on it? It's a combined effort by editors across the web. Creation means no more than that: the creation. The contributors are the ones who matter.

To be honest, I don't like this. It will mostly be for weapons, but in a database that everyone can edit, the information will be constantly changing, because nobody can agree on everything pertaining to weapons. The only way to counter that is to remove all "strategy" information from the wiki, at which point, all you have is a (somewhat cumbersome) technical reference for what the weapons do rather than what they're useful for. And, while that might be appealing to someone new to the game or someone who wants details about the weapons in an expansion pack, I don't think we need to go so far.

And, the point of a wiki is to change. Basic strategy and point values are the only thing we will have time to put in until we get ahold of your strategy guide.

i, personally like this idea. it just seems really more official than having, even though it is well written and compiled, minmay, a scrapbook guide.

I will eventually, but I have to post 200+ pages of weapon information, so I will likely not be able to get past that for atleast a month. However, your welcome to come and edit the weapon's page with it. Thats the joy of it, dont ask me to do anything, you can always do it yourself.

Well, I found out how to make pictures in a row. First, they cant have wrap-text. Second, they need one space after them. Then, just move a picture below it into that space, then delete the space. Tada!

The reason the original pack page's weapons are spaced out is because thats their size: they have a bit of black on the sides, but not the top.

Imagine that the current wikipedia is split in half. Half of the information is on one wiki, and the other half is on the other wiki. This means you need to do twice the searching, twice the reading, and contributors might add redundant information to one wiki that is already present on the other, causing problems.

In case you don't know what a wiki IS, a wiki is a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content. Since registration is required, that makes the wiki NOT work in the way it is intended.

Plus, Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites. If one already exists, there is no point to create a second one; instead, simply add content to the existing wiki, instead of doing everything over again, wasting effort for the sake of self-satisfaction.

When I created this wiki, it was without the knowledge of another ones existance. When I say our, I mean anyone who has visited the wiki, not blitwises. If this was not true, I would not of said "For those of you have known me and those who dont...".

About saying "not sharing", that is a completely odd attack against me. Theres 100's of wikis that are all about the same topic. What do you think about them? Should every page that has to do with the same topic merge? You shouldnt go around yelling out other peoples wikis when it is so common and normal to have two of the same type/

However, I do see where your coming from. Based on you knowledge, I am using the info from us blitwasians and instead of giving it all to that one wiki, I create my own.

I certainly would share it with the other wiki, I just havent done it yet. I would never share information that could be false. My wiki is 3 days old, and if you would of kept track of the other wikis information, you would know they are about four months old. I havent even took any blitwise-only information and added them to the wiki. Everything in the wiki is atleast in theirs, just re-worded and re-formated. However, you cannot doubt that it is easier to, wheather it is a good habit or not, visit, change, and talk about a website someone you know so well has created.

by the way, i have majorly updated every page to have a return to pack link at the bottom. plus, scatter shot can't be re-created for some reason. oh, and all the pics are up, but SS and cruiser aren't linked. and for some reason, all the links in firecrackers row link to firecracker.

See, we have to register, and that takes quite a bit of time, this meaning most users passing by won't take the time to fix things. This is not a problem with Wikia wikis.

I know wikia is more advanced then wetpaint, but wetpaint is easier for the public to use. You cant expect red_cracker to know how to do that.

I fixed the one on the main weapon page and when clicked on I fixed the name next to the picture but, the one above the picture, I couldn't change it. Or at least I couldn't figure out how.

You sure? Wikia is pretty straightforward. You just click "Edit this page" and add stuff. The only complicated part of it is LaTeX, and we don't exactly need to display complicated formulae for Pocket Tanks.

also added an official updates page-when things come out, add a small description in news, then a link to updates page where a full description will be. (description from blitwise page)

to add links (for text) just highlight text, and there will be a tab in the edit box where you edit.

for pics, just do the same thing.

oh yeah, remember to add all news you add in recent news to the news page, which contains all news in PP history. recent news is only for newest three news articles.

Edit: made the recent news box more colorful with PT peurple-black, and REJOICE!!! all the pack lists are finally up. Now just work on weapon pages.

Guys, and just so you know, in case you add a page where it's not supposed to be, there is a move page option in the more tools tab. (you must be out of edit, though) you can then place it in the correct order, too.

see, guys, the point of WHY i said that you could move pages was so you WOULDENT get stuff out of order, not so you know we can fix up your mistakes. see, thats why we do original, then deluxe, then NUKE, then AMBUSH, then all the rest in order, not original, then deluxe, then ACID.

umm, the point of a wiki is so that ANYBODY can edit them. the only thing you can't do is delete pages.

all you gotta do to add pages is click the right pack page, and click "add page" underneath the sitemap.

just make sure to have a good PNG image of the weapon in action.

Please don't. I want to keep my weapons guide separate from the wiki. You can use it as a reference, but don't copy anything from it. It's not that hard to write original material.

ok, flamethrower is up and done. please, help me out. right now, i am the only one basically dragging this thing along.

all you have to do is create the pages in the right order and in the right pack page, and write the weapon descriptions. if you dont want to do the "icon links" and weapon pictures, me and rex can do them, as well as proof-read your pages.

if you want to, just save whatever pics you upload as PNG's. please.

and, just put links back to the pack overview page at the bottom of the weapon pages.

thats all you have to do.

Why don't you copy the weapon description from Mike's Readme's?

I'm having a thought here, why not make some .gif's to show people how a weapon acts instead of just a still picture of the weapon? It wouldn't be that hard to do it, and all it would mean is just a bigger area to show off the weapon.

well, gif's take a while to make and upload. plus, i think everybody here would refuse to change over 100 pages to show just a different picture.

and rex, I have been working behind the scenes sometimes with others. more than half of the free packs are complete, plus there are more pages for links and stuff (lots of credit to arkadev). all we need to do is finish the weapons.

I used Camtasia Studio to make .gifs. You just record the screen, then convert it to a .gif.

I tried to edit some yesterday. I started with Snowball Pack. But how do you create a page for the weapon?

first, you want to be in the pack page. so, go into snowball pack page.

under the site map (list), is a link called 'add a new page.' click this. it will create a sub-page under the chosen page. so, if you added the snowball weapon page while you were in the weapon directory, you would realize that it would be on the same level as the packs.

i did the snowball and sledgehammer pages for you. if you want, you can do the rest, and i'll edit where necessary.

EDIT: i've added links and signature pics to the Tournament page of pocketpedia to all publicly open Blitwise tournaments.
