View Full Version : Help Needed: Mac Beta Testers

In June, Blitwise will begin selling and supporting the Mac versions of our games.
We are brand-new to Mac development, and we need to find some zealous Mac folks to help us beta test our releases. We've enjoyed working with CTSP Games for years, but times have changed and we've taken this opportunity to raise our Mac programming skills to the next level.
If you own a Mac, or have a friend who does, then please try out these shareware builds of Pocket Tanks, Super DX-Ball, and Neon Wars. Report any bugs, suggestions, or comments to this forum thread or email them to tech support.
(Requires OSX 10.3.9 or newer, Universal Binaries)
Here are the download links:
ptanksmac_beta.dmg (http://www.blitwise.com/forum_mac_betas/ptanksmac_beta.dmg)
sdxballmac_beta.dmg (http://www.blitwise.com/forum_mac_betas/sdxballmac_beta.dmg)
neonwarsmac_beta.dmg (http://www.blitwise.com/forum_mac_betas/neonwarsmac_beta.dmg)
I hope you enjoy the new look of our Mac releases. It's been fun learning the Mac way of doing things. :)

I'm probably going to a friends house tomarrow who has a Mac, so I'll take a look into them if I do end up going over there.

Who in the world uses the expensive Macs? Windows is much better and can fit your budget better! Most programs out there run on the Windows environment.

...We've been over this so many times in so many threads.
Macs are good computers if they fit what you do.
Pity Pyrobellum has been missing. He'd be all over these betas.

Shall we PM him an alert?
Samail

Probably should. (E-mail for higher odds of alerting.)
Otherwise we'll never hear the end of it.

Before we get into the PC versus Mac debate, I'll prevent it from happening by listing the cons of each system. (As far as I'm concerned, there are no pros to either of them. Maybe if you had asked me to include Linux.)
Macs:
-You can play about 1% of games because everything is Windows-only
-Weird shaped mice
-It's from Apple
Windows:
-You can play about 1% of games because explorer.exe is eating all your memory
-You have to replace your hard drive every three months
-It's from Microsoft
'nuff said. Now, how old of a Mac would these run on? I know some people with a Mac, but it's...old. 16 colors old. And I don't mean 16-bit.

FALSE! Must be your computer that is messed up. Mine never had those problems. (Sarcasm?)

Lol, I don't know anyone who has a Mac.
And what about Linux OS?
Samail
05-26-2008, 05:19 AM
I asked about that. It's being looked into.
Mike W.

And what about Linux OS?
Let's get the Mac release out of the way before we dig into Linux.
We're working on building up our Mac user base here on the forums. So don't be shy folks, we need the help. :)
And there's no sense in comparing Apples to oranges here, since Blitwise will support all PC's soon enough. I personally enjoy Mac OSX a great deal, and having an easy to manage UNIX variant on my desk with a decent amount of commercial software available for it is fantastic IMHO.

I am willing to ignore these windows fanatics for the time being :P
I can't feel my legs, I've been sitting here too long.

As an old Amiga zealot, I welcome any and all who are fanatics about there computers. :)
So... what do you think about the new Blitwise Mac release/plan?

I have just downloaded. I will let you know of anything that happens bad.
EDIT: First minor thing, I would like to see the high res icons for us Leopard users
EDIT 2: I noticed in the results screen in Neon Wars, there was this: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a398/saladbar1/Picture4.png (I made it a bit brighter so you can see it better). In the lower left corner, it appears that there is something that doesn't belong in the background. It looks like a mini verson of the background and something else.

Huh. Interesting. (And hard to see unless you look.)
(For clarification he means the lower-left side of the screen. It in the lower center of the picture.)

Sorry for double posting but...
I am noticing that behind the cursor and certain text elements, there is a square that, I'm guessing, shouldn't be there.

Well, I've opened all the .dmgs and played a few token games, though I've not had time for more... intensive testing... but so far the games look good, and I don't see any real differences between the releases from CTSP. I like the new business plan, especially if it means there's no huge wait for mac releases like last year :)

I went into the package from Neon Wars, I see the problem with the fonts having the black boxes. The Small and ST_SFont folders have files with black backgrounds. Some of the sprites have this too. They should be transparent so they blend in.

right.......
i guess ekoz retired, he no longer explodes when "noobs" necro post
and we all had this is another thread, now we have a noob posting in the wrong thread AND necro posting
and a spammer, we now have a spammer. Congratulations dec101, in one post you have been promoted from "noob" to MegaNoob
Good Luck to not failing ever again
P.S.
SEARCH FOR THE CORRECT FORUMS AND THINK BEFORE YOU POST
If you wont be semi-serious, dont be a spammer, a noob, or a necro poster. Just be quite.
And if you are the minimum required age to be on these forums, (in other words, you didnt lie about your age in the registration, which, so far, I am assuming you did) then act like it. And if you DID lie, which sucks for you, at LEAST act like you older....
it's quiet, not quite.
quiet refers to silence, quite is an adjective describing lots of or "very".
and the reason i didn't say anything was because this person was just TOO stupid for even me to find something to say about.

That's not necro-posting. It's bumping, but not necro-posting.
At least the topic of macs is in this thread, but yeah, that random post of all caps was... unnecessary.
P.S.
SEARCH FOR THE CORRECT FORUMS AND THINK BEFORE YOU POST
And what would he be searching for, exactly? Not sure how searching comes into play here...

Since I am the only one to say quite thus far, I shall respond.
I may have my moments, but don't mark me stupid. I can tell the difference between "Quiet" and "Quite". Have you never heard anyone reply to something with "Quite"?

I am just adding some helpful advice, it basically has nothing to do with the point i am trying to make. If he is going to act like a new person who knows nearly nothing, he needs advice on what to do, to prevent further issues that could happen.
(all of ekoz's stuff removed due to way to much)
I cant even comment on that, i have no idea what you are trying to get across, so i made a mistake, big deal. My keyboard doesn't want to type, and using the on-screen keyboard is to slow.

I think Pocket Tanks actually works better on my mac... but then again everything works better on mac.
here's the math I came up with:
PC > MAC so PC = Owned
Mac = 1337

Your equation does not match your statement.
And they're both incorrect anyway.

Perhaps in some areas. Go dig up the OS Debate thread to figure out what we generally think of each.

I have been trained to ignore posts made by apple fanboys, and by people who have horrible math. However, I somehow still saw this.
The Mac argument is self defeating in every way.
