Alright, people, time to show us what you've got! Mike has been working on this for quite some time, because he has, in the past, received many questions about when and how fans can create and submit board ideas beyond the merely general theme suggestions. Below you'll find links to graphs you can access and print, letting you design your own board ideas in a manner similar to the way Mike does his. I'm sure results will be a bit...sketchy at first (pun intended), but we have every confidence in the brilliance and creativity of our fans.

Here's an example from Mike (http://www.blitwise.com/forum_pics/sdxb_coloring/coloring_example.jpg).

Wow...giving up after only...7 minutes? :)
Well...1rst of all, I don't have paint (something that i'm used to) so I down loaded Gimp 2.0. I don't know how to use it though. 2nd of all, My drawing skills aren't that good. Last but not least, I can't think of any good ideas for a board. Sorry I can't give any ideas, but ideas that don't involve drawing I'll be glad to help with!

You can print the template out and just color it with colored pencils. It's easy! :)
Then, you just scan it in...

It's actually tougher than it looks. My picture (three posts up) almost took two hours to make. :(

I don't have pictures, but I do have three ideas for board packs:
1. Classic Video Games: I got this idea from the Tetris and Blinky boards in DX-Ball and the fact that this whole game is based on the Breakout concept. It would be really cool to have an entire board pack like this--Dig Dig, Donkey Kong, Tempest, Centipede, Frogger, Space Invaders, etc.
2. Sports Logos: Football helmets, hockey shirts, basketball shirts, and baseball caps or shirts all in the right colors for each team and with the team's logo on it. There could probably be a separate board pack for each sport, and it would probably be easier to stick with pro teams because there are way less of them than there are college teams, unless you really want to go all out.
3. Flags of the World: This idea also came from DX-Ball--the American flag board. The title should be self-explanatory.
The only bad part about the first two is that you may need to get permission to use the video games and sports logos because they are most likely copyrighted.

It's not that great. It's a great concept, but it's only version 1.0. :)
I'll post it after I scan it in later today.

That is correct. BUT, I only use it to add shading effects. I create everything in paint. In fact, most of my Pocket Tanks pictures are done solely in MS Paint.
And Paint sucks, you say? Maybe you haven't realized the true power of the MSP!;)

Phantasy StarHero; Good Job!
I'm afraid I'm not so creative. I made TONS of boards with the older DXBall 2 game, but I'm afraid that without a brickset I'm rather lost on this one. As well, I don't have a printer, scanner, or very good drawing ability with a mouse.

Really off topic: Wow, I used to be a noob. :D 1st forum, only forum...
HAH!! watch me make a connection between the words "really off topic" and a birthday cake.
Really off topic's initials are ROT; rot is german for red; red is the color of human blood; human blood is what comes out of you if you get shot; to get shot a trigger must be pulled; lighters have triggers; lighters are used to light candles; candles are stuck in birthday cakes.

He uses Blender.
Blender? Extreme... it could damage your computer.
imagine, if you will, a world in which pocket tank icons were used as bricks. the resulting confusion would not only lead to massive explosions, but odd looking dents in the human skull.
short: the two are not related.
and i don't use blender.

Rose and Flower are a little lacking of things to hit with a gravity defying ball :P.
but i like the floating forest and vine idea.
i dunno wut to think about the tree. maybe thats just because if you hit it, you automatically win :P
Leaf_It
11-07-2009, 01:27 AM
yeah the tree needs lines to divide it into more pieces but I thought I'd let mike do that. The rose is in beta it says so in the name and I'll probably work on that tomarrow when I have nothing to do. I have a few more map ideas to draw up and to upload, darn dial-up, but it takes so long. any way if you have an idea for a map but dont feel like drawing it your self I'll give it a go, just let me know.
oh. your commitment to super dx-ball gave me inspiration. i'm drawing myself up a board right now :P.
http://i33.tinypic.com/spcjnm.jpg
ok, so, i call this Warp Gate. why? because Pocket Tanks has a SDXB cameo - i think the opposite shoudl be true, too. if you look really closely, you'll see it's actually two rings parallel to each other, with diamonds on their sides, wierd jutting connectors at the top and bottom, and warped objects in the middle.
(the middle piece of each warped object is explosive.)
the shading just represents how the color scheme would gradient.

Leaf It, nice boards! Ekoz, that's a nice design too.
I was just thinking about DX-Ball today, and daydreaming about hat I'd like to add to it. Believe it or not, on my rather large list of things I ought to do in 2010, I have:
- Super DX-Ball Board Packs
- Super DX-Ball for iPhone (with a very fun paddle movement mechanic)
- Find a way to get the authors of Megaball AGA to collaborate on a new breakout game ;)
It's great to see some board designs. Have there been many graph paper posts like this? I could 'easily' make some more board packs if you guys post more like this.
Neat!

You honestly should make a board pack that consists of nothing but rather snazzy hats. Seriously.
The iPhone version of SDXB would be crazy awesome. The iPhone of PTanks was fun, and the accelerometer functionality of the device would allow for some great controls.
i also made a cityscape, but i was too lazy to upload it. i might do it today, though...

Here are a few new boards I've been working on. Hopefully my boards can inspire Mike to make another board pack for SDXBall.
Feel free to comment, post ideas, give feedback, and +rep ;).

It seems as though it would actually make sense to release a board editor for Super DX-Ball. There presumably aren't going to be any board packs of the money-cost variety at this point, and this sort of level editor is one of the simplest to make user-friendly. Then again, there may not be much money involved in it. (And yes, I'm aware there are plenty of forumers willing to help, but are they able to help?)
