computer launches straight weapon wrongly, like laser & x-rays & gamma blaster ..
he shoots them in the space like a fool :D

Supposedly, part of the Pocket Tanks update this month has to do with the computer AI...

they shall deal with this matter .. i always beat computer level 10 ..
we want something harder

Really? That WOULD be interesting... what other AI updates would there be?
Was It Me?
09-06-2006, 12:17 AM
We don't know what the AI updates will be exactly... we just know that they will be there. :)

excuse me, what's AI?
Artifitual Intelligence(sorry for my spelling)

The AI is the smartness of the computer.

lol evil tecnolegy movies become real! Hey but a computer that you could talk to would be cool like a net navi in megaman bn.
Was It Me?
09-06-2006, 08:17 PM
I'd rather talk to a human, but it might be cool. :)
zetablack
09-06-2006, 08:23 PM
Well yea talking to a human i would rather do but just as someone if there was no one around.
If you really want to talk with a computer, go here. (http://reply.jabberwacky.com/)

lol i think it would be so funny if a computer running only Ptanks went Bezerk. heh. it would deffinetly enslave us all with it's powerful lava cannon and super nova. heh. that would make for an interesting Terminatior style movie.

I Also wouldent call Ptanks computer AI because AI Computers can learn. Thats the whole thing behind the enslavement of the human race by computers. it would be amazing if it could learn but that would be pretty complicated methinks.
Mazenger
09-06-2006, 09:50 PM
That's so intersting. But, are you sure it's a computer which talks with me?
zetablack
09-06-2006, 09:57 PM
ok i know pt isn't the full ai its just an computer programed to do certain things at certain times

Was it me : did mike actually say that there would be a PT update in this month (sept.)?
I only saw that they were doing a Super DX update by october

Lommen: Yes he did. Check the newsletter: http://www.blitwise.com/blitwise_newsletter.html
Also, Brian said:
there is a release schedualed for next month, including the new BlitWise game I've been alluding to as well as many of the long awaited updates to Pocket Tanks itself.

because AI Computers can learn
Not neccesarily... AI can be very simple.

^Yes very true it can be as small as storing memorie in a memory bank without anyone telling it to

Practically every game with a computer player has some degree of AI in it.

Uh... what does that mean?

um its the first birthday of finding out that pocket tanks has AI?
Was It Me?
09-07-2006, 01:35 AM
The definition of AI as far as games are concerned is:
Pretty much anything that helps a computer player (bad guy, character, whatever) react to the game.
It doesn't have to learn. It doesn't have to even be that smart...
It's not that complicated... (I mean, it is to implement, but that's a different story)
zetablack
09-07-2006, 01:36 AM
Or you can say any computer player
MegaDeth_God
09-07-2006, 03:21 AM
Or you can say any computer player
yes unless it is a NPC or something like that , which is pre programed. like someone just walking around with out interaction from or to the Human player.

Not really. There are people who's job is to program AI for games.
Artificial Intelligence is even a major in college.

You're almost right. AI can also cover things like intelligent scripts (a door in unreal tournament or a water effect in metroid prime), dynamic environmental effects (the day-night cycle in warcraft 3, though this is a very poor example), and even effect calculation (how a fire will spread). To top it off, some AI is built right into the game engine: one of the projects at RIT uses a simple intelligence protocal to calculate how much of the map/level to precache.

Pocket tanks is real man's chess as far as I'm concerned.....the variables are many, the weaknesses few. Not having perused the source code, I'd nevertheless hazard the guess that the game serves multiple purposes. A person's strategy/logistics IQ can be well gauged with even this deceptively simple game. The AI is really starting to come into it's own....showing up at the most peculiar moments. For the first time in a thousand games, it actually mimicked one of my defense strategies by firing a 'hot potato' away from my direction out the only open firing lane while under a fractured dome. This obviously in order to avoid losing points. Also, the game has undergone various other changes including the exasperating 'recurring handicapper' which comes up after about 4 or 5 consecutive wins over the computer. It's a real bastard. During such a 'handicapper' the computer can manage to pull off some 'miraculous' stunts.....including but not limited to highly abnormal point scores for run of the mill shots. The adaptive strategies the computer employs are appreciable in number and although they are most noticeable during 'random pick' games with the computer, they still manage to excite on occasion.
Kudos to Mike Welch on a game well done. A game with much potential to be sure. (How much of that potential has been realized, I can only guess.)
Regards,

Yeah well the computer in CPU-10 is soo easy. In the new one it should go up to 50 or something lol.

Being fixed so computer can use weapons such as bazooka and super laser.

What if the AI uses bazooka and there is a wall infront of him? Will he go ahead and shoot the wall? And hurt itself...

Ha.. good question. There should be a difficulty where the computer has the intelligence to get through walls.. dirt too.

I have version 1.00a and, I kid you not, it has recently begun to show some signs of 'intelligence'. For the first time, it shot a Hot Potato out a small crack in it's defensive dome which was behind it, in the opposite direction from me. The computer was in the lead at this point by something like 60 points and it was the first time it did that, normally just taking the hit. I had never before seen it do this, presumably to save it's point lead. This and other 'mimicking' behavior has recently begun to show up on occasion.....and certainly seems to indicate a rudimentary learning ability.
That's the truth or my name's 'lawnmower man'.

I love games where the computer learns, on some games the computer has learned so much I can never win :(
What games are those? O_o
My dad used to play computer versions of Chess and Go, but he got bored of them after a while (not to mention that the computers were learning new strategies and getting harder).

Well the on that I used to play a lot was Galatic Battlegrounds for PC and I always used the same tatic, build air units quickly and pound the enemy. But one game I used that tatic and the enemy had like a bazillion anti-air, and from then on they kept doing that, so I tried something else and they adapted to that also. Kinda frustrating...
