View Full Version : Fully Modable Free Roamer

Have any of you ever watched GTA SA/VC mods/hacks on Youtube? My favorite one was this hovercar thing. It was so shiny and big and... Never mind. Thats beside the point. What I am getting at is that Blitwise should make some sort of fully modable free roamer in 3D. I don't know if this is possible with the current software they are using, butI think it is a great idea. Think of it. You'd have a custom made character (or download thousands of already made ones), and then enable the "flood mod" to make the water level rise sufficiently so you can ride your boat and hit buildings. The idea is to get some sort free roaming enviroment like the Grand Theft Auto series, but take out all the violence and suggestive themes and make it easier to mod. Sure, it may take a LONG time, but it would be awesome.
My only concern is that Blitwise does not have the proper software to make such a game in 3D. Moddable games are much funner in 3D.

This would be AWSOME ! I'd play all day, like have a sun pop out and turn the area to a desert, or raising a pet! But blitwise wont do it...
Make it like a 40 buck game :D :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

The game would rank in a lot of cash. Just like Grand Theft Auto does, except it will be playable to everyobdy. There won't be any violence. Think of all the buyers. Think of how well Cortex Command does, and thats 2D. If Blitwise spent a few years on this, it would be the next biggest game.

It will take MUCH longer then the GTA games, or any 3D free roamer, to make. Why? All the major 3D free roamer games had HUGE coding teams behind it, Blitwise does not have the manpower, or the money to hire manpower, available. All the games, like GTA, Saints Row, Oblivion, World of Warcraft, etc, where made by companies with A LOT of people working on every aspect of the game (coding, graphics, level design, story, etc)
Even if Blitwise tried, it would take them over 20 years to create a game that is the equivalent to GTA, but with no violence. Unless they spend millions of dollars hiring people to help them, I doubt they will even try. But it would make them a hefty sum of money. What they could try is to make such a game, but not as huge as GTA. If they make a profit, they could use the money they gain to make a bigger game...and so on.

Not quite. All they have to do is make some city and give it a feature to be able to mod, have a base vehicle for everything and such. Just the bare minimums and let the player do the rest. With millions of people playing, there will soon be fansites with hundreds of mods for the players to add. It would more or so be an objectiveless free roaming game that can be expanded by the players around the world.

Why not start an open source project along these lines? Or perhaps, mod out an existing engine (such as the source engine) to do this.

I agree with PJ_69, companies who make those games, don't have 2 or 3 people coding, they have well over a hundred people, all working together.
I just finished playing Call of Duty 3 a while back, and I must have sat there for at least 20 minutes reading all the names in the credits.
You can't just have an idea anymore, ideas are a dime a dozen.

So... thats... 1.2 cents per idea?

They don't need any special software, they just need to know a programming language, and have a compiler.
yes...but what about expansions, and every litlle detail that goes into the base? those things are extremely complicated themselves, even if they don't look it. they take huge amounts of energy and money. you may only need those few things, but it takes longer than anyone except the creators could imagine.
if mike and one or two other people from blitwise who somewhat can program tried it, it could and most likely would take them at least 10-15 years doing that all by themselves. they would need to hire mass programmers to come and help, and even if they didn't, they most likely would still go bankrupt in the middle of programming.
and no, ideas are 1.4 cents, 1.4

Are we still talking about a simple game where you have a moddable car to drive around in?
