View Full Version : PopCap Games Vs. Blitwise Productions

Is anyone familiar with the format on how PopCap Games wants you to register their games? If so, do you think Blitwise Productions should follow this format? If not, first you download PopCap Games' Deluxe version game. Then you install it. If you do not have a registration code, you get to have 60 minutes of full version play. As soon as 60 minutes is up, you must purchase and register your game to continue playing. This method is used so there are no two seperate installers for one game (demo and deluxe). Blitwise does the opposite. 2 seperate installers just for one game (demo and deluxe)

I hate that... any game that has a timelimit... I just won't play... I don't feel they want my money... If I see that timelimit I remove the game from my computer Immediately... That doesn't mean PopCap games are crap... I love Bejeweled... Atleast when I feel there's nothing else to do...

That's odd... I just heard Thunder... :) Anyway... Timelimits tick me off...

Blitwise Demo's are at least fully functional as long as you want... You don't get everything that's meant to be there... But it doesn't cripple itself on you...

Now, a Method I don't mind... Another way to have one file... You simply download the game... And you get the Demo... Fully playable... Minus whatever Deluxe features... But there's also a Registration page... So that when you feel it's time or that it's worth it... You pay however you pay... and get that Registration code... Preferrably something that's checked against a Server source of some kind... Enter it... and you already have what you need...

BTW... I don't understand your poll.... Yes or No to what... It would have been better to put PopCap's Method as one selection and Blitwise's Method as another...

I have a unique idea for PTanks "registration." A file would be stored in some remote location that contains your IP, OS, ISP, and system specs. This file would also be in a custom encryption. Then, whenever a version without or with the wrong information starts up, it will freeze.
Yeah, that is my repetitive idea. Plus, registration codes are horrible. Game Maker used to have a system where you'd pay $20 for a code, then they'd send it to you. There were so many codes flowing around the internet, it was impossible to hide them. Then Game Maker made a new one. Its for GM7, and it needs the internet to activate, put still uses a code. I found a way to hack even that so I have the registered version, but I already have it. Anyway, if my idea was to use the same encryption as PTanks does for the weapons, no one could hack the game. No one has ever actually hacked a weapon pack, so even if they were ot find a remote file, the chances they code decode that is very, very high. Then they'd have tofind out how to type in their OS, IP, ISP and system specs in that encoding... I believe it would work.

As long as the demo is free, I don't really see what the problem is.

The demo is what you could call a 'peek' at what the real game is. If you like the demo, then you purchase the game. If you do not, then you may uninstall it.

I think that having a demo like those of Blitwise's games is a great and well thought idea.

I'm with biggman15. For reasons I don't entirely understand, any demo with a built-in time limit just annoys me to no end.

I have a reason for hating time limits - they force you to buy the game if you want to play it at all, which I really think is annoying. And I don't have too much spare money either.

Instead of a time trial, certain features are locked (like the demo version) until you register (like the deluxe version).

But that is a registration key. Its even easier to pirate a key because no downloading is involved. The best thing I can think of is an installer that asks for a serial number, name, and email. It also stores your IP. Each email can only be used once, so you can't pass around an email, serial number and name. The list is stored online. You can go to the registration page on the website tho register. However, if you already registered... And you are on the same computer with the same IP, it automatically registers.

That's when most people turn to a "crack". Most cracks are just "no-cd-cracks", but some more advance ones would bypass all those methods.

I found a game once... that Required you to register for an Account on their Website, Buy the game with that Account then login through the game to unlock it... But I can't remember what it was...

The poll is saying "do you like Popcaps way to register."

Nope... I wouldn't pay for a PC tetris game... I already own the best Tetris ever made... Tetris on the NES! nothing beats an Original...

I see you don't like the infinite spin glitch.

For those of you that don't know it. When your piece lands on the bottom of the screen, you can infinitely spin the piece without having to worry about another piece falling, which explains Tetris Worlds' low rating compared to older tetris games.

I see you don't like the infinite spin glitch.

In Most Newer Tetris games... it's not a glitch... It's a Feature...

ChallengeSpaceYard

It's normally called the Easy spin feature, but critics call it the Infinite spin feature/glitch.

The lakes will be unplugged! The sky will fall! The aliens will come! See? I can yell pointless and meaningless things yet they still aren't true however exciting. Plus, we have enough Satellites powered by gas that if a meteor did enter Earth's atmosphere, there's a large chance it will hit one and blow up.

Death is added to the equation of having a meteor hit us sometime in the future (which won't happen)...

This is the perfect size for a forum community as it is in my opinion...

07-01-2007, 02:05 PM
Its like a village right now. Add about 1000 more people and you have a town. Add 10000 more people and you have a city. Add 100000 more people and you have a capital.
