What? So you want us to invade your cpu and rumage through what is inside? Or do you want us to host it, so you can do the same to us? Its inventive, but I'd wait a bit.

endgame

That's far too dangerous in my opinion.

well you see, i wouldnt mind being the host because i have a computer with a fresh hard drive/install of windows and therefore no personal information that i care about(except for my IP i suppose...). i duno, maybe im just too trusting, or maybe its just that i dont give a ****. but either way, whos up for a game?

If you let me in, I could do some serious damage if I was provoked. If you end up missing the win32 folder and your cpu won't start up after you let someone in, you'll know who did it.

but like i said, i have an extra computer. so even if u did delete every file you could i can just boot off the windows disc and do a quick reinstall.
and on a side note, the only reason i bothered bringing this up here is because in all the threads ive read ppl seemed reasonably nice(ie little flaming)

As long as there is someone that can really be trusted, go for it. I'm gonna wait and keep trashing the cpu until online play comes out (if it does). That is a clever idea, though.

thanks, and im looking into a way to make such a thing more secure. if i have any luck ill be sure to post back

I wouldn't let someone in my computer, no matter who they were.

honestly though, what could happen? (assuming the host computer only has PT installed) i mean is someone gonna find my IP, somehow track it down on the map, and rob my house? seems improbable to me...

Actually they CAN get your IP ver easy, and they CAN get your adress with it. But I doubt they are going to go to your house and rob you.

*sigh* no support here apparently. people really need to start trusting each other. whatever though...

Well it's not a bad idea, it may work!
But getting someones IP is easy... Brian and any admins here know all our ip addresses(well atleast they do on invision boards) and anyway there are several ways such as being in a chat room, msn or other instant messagers, playing an online game with something, or anything like these.
What harm can knowing someones ip address really do? Other than you can send them viruses and files while there connected to the internet?

well theres no doubt it works because ive done it once before. online play technically is possible for PT, its just light years from being perfected. and if getting a virus is the worst case scenario if i were to host a game, then im so down(as you can probably tell none of the ppl i play with are a challenge anymore, and playing the computer is more of a joke). hmmm i think i play too much PT :)

Well, I think it is a good idea, and inventive like I previously said, but say I start rummaging your files, (I wouldn't), the first thing I may go for is your system specs or a contact list. Those two things are very succeptable to attacks, especially you contacts list. If I get to see your phone number, I can see the exact house you own from google maps, then fly there. Same for your system specs, except I'd get the IP. There are real life reprocussions, but I can do very limited in terms of real world damage, I am only 14. However, some people here seem good-natured, while some may just act it. Biggman### is 23 or something, so yeah. Once again, inentive, but dangerous.

Jumpman, I admire your ingenuity on this. I think it's a clever way to get a kind of online play, but I don't think the posters here are trying to get you down about it. It's a serious risk to do what you propose with someone you don't really know. It's like saying "What's the harm in someone knowing where I live and whether I lock the windows at night?" It would be fun to see it in action, but it can be a serious security risk, and I would advise against it. Safe and effective network play is very close anyway.

What if you ran your computer in safe mode? Would this help?

Also maybe there is a way to lock your other programs and stuff.

endgame

The game probably wouldn't run very well in safe mode. I think it'd be pretty choppy.

You can also take a peak at other files which may include addresses and phone numbers.

so it's too dangerous to consider,agreed?....good;)

Well I trust mostly everyone so I am up for anything. Although I have been using a program call LogMeIn it is a faster program then windows remote access, but I can't seem to get it to bring Pocket Tanks up. Sooo I guess I'll have to wait until they make an actual online version. HURRRRY!!! :)

jumpman got banned or something, anyway .
I wouldn't do that .
I'll only let my cousin and other relatives to have remothe acces to my computer becuase I really trust them but anyone else, no .

I can't even get Remote Access to initialize properly on my cpu.
BTW, jumpman didn't get banned, you could still see his profile and posts. He got deleted.

Isn't that simmilar to banning ... :)

If he (whoever that was) was banned, you'd still be able to see his posts...

so what would you say is worse, being delted or banned?

Now that this thread is off topic and complete, I suggest that it is to be closed.

And yeah this thread should not have any use anymore, so it should be closed .

I think that deleting a profile has to be done by the poster himself. Think about it, All of those spammers were'nt deleted, just banned.

WTF is with his thing, it's messed, I don't get it. Brian, what is it?

On-topic: It is risky, but for those daredevils, if they mess around with the computer, then you click the disconnect button.

What is up is that jumpman asked that his account be deleted, so I obliged. End of story, but the discussion is legitimate enough without him.

could happen. besides, stuff being read or taken out is nothing compared to viruses being put IN...

dont continue this questioning, it is pointless, because no matter what, u should never let anyone into ur computer files - especially if u dont know them...

I say this now, and only now-everybody agrees this is dangerous, banning is the same as deleting except there is shame involved, and this thread is complete! done, over! everybody is off topic, and we all reached the same conclusion! The door iiiiiiissssss...CLOSED!

I quoted JB, so I direct what I say towards JB. Also, you are not a mod. It would be polite of me to abide by what you say, but I just wanted to throw one last thing out at JB. He spams a lot. Check his posts.
