How about an RTS (2d like starcraft not 3d)?

Its a nice genre that doesn't have too many games in it yet.

As long as there would be no gore or bloody shots, I might play it.

What do you mean it doesn't have too many games in it yet? Next to FPS's... It's one of the most bloated Genre's out there... at least for PC...

Exactly bigg. RTS's are almost unique to the PC, with a few exeptions. I think that the 2 most bloated ones are FPS's and RPG's. Weird how we have abb. for almost every word, including abbreviations.
Id be one of the first to buy a 2d RTS, if it was made with different races/alians/civilizations/creepy block things. I dont think Mike would have it though. Starcraft is one of those old glory games.
Also I'd like to thank, AGE OF EMPIRES for starting the revolution of RTS'.

What I meant is there is not to many good ones other than Age of Empires and Starcraft/Warcraft that really made an impression.

Well I really like the Command and Conquer series, and am currently addicted to the third installment...

I think C&C is a fine RTS series...

Exactly bigg. RTS's are almost unique to the PC, with a few exeptions. The only exception to the Rule that I own is for the PS1... Command and Conquer Red Alert... Which plays very nicely because I have a Playstation Mouse... But it's merely a Ball mouse... ;)

And the only reason I have it... is Because My W2k machine wont run my Original copy of Red Alert.. It won't even run the W95 version... :(

Personally it would take al;ot for me to buy another RTS, if you have played a few you have pretty much played them all, they all play the same and always have alot to do with either medieval or alien/futuristic.
The RTS games I own are Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, Age of Empires I,II,III and the Expansion Packs, Command and Conqer II: Yuri's Revenge, Rise of Nations and Age of Mythologies oh and Battle Realms.
Now after that massive list guess what ones of them I still play Warcraft III: Frozen Throne and some Age of Empires games... mostly II.

I never really like Comand and Conquer. My friend just bought the complete colection and I played it a bit... maybe I just didn't give it enough time.

Well it's generally more fast-paced, using a different way to build stuff and such, and with no (until the newest games) upgrades to units, other than simply buying better ones...

That's not in the same category... I may be wrong... bUt I think it's a Turn based Strategy.... But it's still a great game...

I would check out Supreme Commander but it seems to be windows only.:(

I guess I should probably get a new mac with bootcamp (mine is like 6 years old).

Bootcamp isn't the best out there, it causes glitches on most windows-exclusive programs and hampers the speed durastically, I'd just buy a windows cpu myself, they are cheaper than macs.

Yeah but I'd rather have a more solid OS.

Windows is great for games, but I do alot of programing, modeling, and other tasks besides games and I don't want to have to worry about loosing all the content I have created.

Plus I don't think I'd be hammpered to much with a 8-core 3.0GHz Intel Xeon.

Yeah but I'd rather have a more solid OS.

Every Windows OS as far back as 2000 is completely Solid... They are great Operating Systems... The problem is not The OS, it's the Software running on that OS... IE is a perfect example... Nicely designed for 1995... Not up up modern standards... And for the Record... My windows 2000 machine hasn't crashed... I've never lost anything... And it still runs like new... even if new is from the year 2000... I'm not saying go out and buy a new Windows machine... Personally I think Vista is worthless... expecially if your not getting the best Version... Vista Home Basic is Basicly a confusing version of Windows XP...

Yeah, maybe I've just had really bad luck or something when I'm around windows. I've lost english papers to the school's computers, my computer in my DigiTools class freezes when ever I save something in word, I lost sprites I had made for my game this summer when I was using DigiPen's computers during thier summer workshops, and my tearcher's computer got infected with a virus so he can't give us our grades.

And all that has been within the past year. Ouch.

My friend on the other had has never had anything happen to his machine. I guess I am despised by windows for using mac so long and it wishes evil upon me. Oh well.

My Windows has never failed me, really. My new Vista Ultimate hasn't crashed or anything either. IE7 is certainly an improvement too, so generally I have nothing really against Microsoft...

Yeah, school computers are on a server usually, and viruses can leap from one cpu to the next. My whole school was infected bacause some kid tried downloading all these keygens and torrents and couldn't find them so he downloaded them over and over. My Windows runs nicely, and Macs age fast. My grandmother has a Mac, and had it for 2 years and already runs like a windows 98.

Look at your port settings in the options menu (In warcraft). Options->Gameplay-> Port option. Make sure it is 6112. If it still is not working, make sure you are connected to the internet. If it still is stubern and doen't work, re-download the game. Try to install the patches manually by going to blizzerds web site. You can find the address somewhere in the game, or you could try blizzard.com. If this still doesn't work, go to start-> help and support -> Search: Windows Firewall-> Turn Windows firewall on or off -> Windows firewall link->General-> off. Try it then, if its still not working, your doomed.

...ok I'll try that when I get home!
Anyway I thought about Blitwise making a RTS a bit more and I think it is a great idea as they would be able to implement expansion packs easily which makes it good for blitwise because you could expect it to have alot of flexibility and not be too complex.

BlitWise = simplicity. Therefore, I don't think a BW RTS would be a very good idea...

Imposter
04-18-2007, 05:02 PM
Well, if you want a simple one:

one race
no hotkeys
no unit limit
one type of resource
no cloaked units
no special powers for units
2d
only land units

(most of the things above are opposite from most "complex" RTS)

I think a lot of the things above would not only make it simpler, but also funner (with the exception of "only land units"). And these are just examples, there are many other things that could be changed to make it simpler.

I have Supreme Commander. It's a really cool game, but you need a really good computer to run it well.

An RTS would be a huge project, but I would probably by a blitwise rts ^_^
