View Full Version : Idea: border selection

I just had an idea:
you could be able to select three edge borders for the terrain.
they would be:
Regular
Loop
Concrete
Bounce
Mirror

That would be.... different..

I'm kinda puzzled to what mirror would do.

It is actually a good idea, kind of enclosing the arena. Would certain borders be destructible? Oh yes, what is this 'loop' border?
Demyx- If a bullet is fired it goes through the mirror and possibly comes out at the reverse trajectory it was traveling?

I don't know what Mirror would do either... But Bounce, Concrete, and Loop have been done... Over and Over... Sure they add a new strategy to the game... But do we really want Pocket Tanks to be Scorched Earth 2.0?
Oh yes, what is this 'loop' border?
In the older games... Say you were on the left... And you shot left... off the border... it would pop up on the right side of the Screen and Continue on it's trajectory as if nothing happened...

I dont like the loop idea, you could just aim at the wall, and since you both are on each side of the border, you could make the game alot easier,.

I'm not really sure of how most of these ideas work...

These are my guesses:
Normal: nothing
Concrete: solid, indestructable dirt
Bouncy: bouncy dirt
Loop: what goes around, comes around
Mirror: reverses the vertical direction of the bullet (kinda what Pajamas said)
Slade

Well, actually, I do like the bouncy dir idea but I would like it better if the dirt was indestructable also...

Mirror: reverses the vertical direction of the bullet (kinda what Pajamas said)
If it was really "mirror", wouldn't it would reverse the horizontal speed of the bullet? :P

Well, that too. I don't get mirror.

I was acctually about to post an idea about the loop idea...I like the idea quite a bit.
Was It Me?

It would introduce some new strategy techniques...

Ah yes... normal shooting without walls and now (future possibilities...) shooting out of the screen to get a great hit.

Yeah, I'd fire a X-Ray Cannon at 180 degrees with loop on and it would go on forever if I get out of the way in time and nobody gets hit.
Was It Me?
03-24-2007, 05:43 PM
Yeah, there would probably have to be a 'time-out' value for weapons like that.
Slade

Otherwise that would be a #1 glitch possibility. I'm with WIM.

One thing though... to keep Pocket Tanks simple, I'm beginning to think that maybe "border types" should wait for the new artillery engine that Mike has considered...

That idea doesn't make any sense.

I don't know why that question is pointed at Demyx, he didn't make the idea. Ask Death.

actually, mirror just reflects the bullet at the same power you fired it instead of reducing the power like bouncy would.
and yes, no thay I think about it, loop Would! make it too easy.

That idea doesn't make any sense.
If you look at yourself in the mirror you see a 'mirrored' image correct? So whatever you do with your body you see an opposite image of. Would that not apply to the mirror wall?
blue_moon
03-24-2007, 11:15 PM
But thats only horizontal, and we wouldn't be able to see the face of the mirror, so no change visible is taking place.

So about the mirror, perhaps it goes back the same way? (Goes into the mirror and shoots out the exact same way).
Rex Nex

Mirror, hmm, a ball goes in, a few seconds later it comes out with the power the same but the angle the oppisit. Ex: -----> l(<-wall) Wait a few seconds
<----l

Like bouncy dirt?
Was It Me?
03-25-2007, 01:32 AM
Yeah, it seems to me like a bouncy wall and a mirror would be basically the same.

Yeah, it seems to me like a bouncy wall and a mirror would be basically the same.
Not the way I said it, and it would depend on the angle.
Was It Me?
03-25-2007, 01:38 AM
Right, if it was implemented like that, it would be different.
blue_moon
03-25-2007, 09:44 PM
Yes but it would be suicidal. It woyld bounce back, and no matter what you do, it will hit you.

Yeah, there would probably have to be a 'time-out' value for weapons like that.
that should be added to the lodestones, gotta hate when they get stuck with some bouncy walls near the other tank, gotta restart the game each time that happens :P

They fixed that in V1.1 (or V1.0b), you should get the new version because you will need it.
