View Full Version : A New Dirt-Gasoline

I came up with the idea of Gasoline. This is dirt that is very flamable, and can only set fire when there is fire touching it. When fire touches a patch of this, it ignites the whole patch. The Gasoline burns away after 3 seconds of burning. The gasoline spreads like bouncy dirt, but instead of pink bubbles, they're black bubbles. Diagram:

...-patch of normal dirt
,,,-patch of gasoline
|||-flame
\\\-flame due to patch of gasoline

Before any weapons:
...........................

After Gasoline:
....,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,........

After ignition with flame:
...|||\\\\\\\\\.........

After Gasoline has burned away:
...........................

Gasoline would come in handy in various situations, such as if you have a small fire weapon (such as fire bolt) then you can spread the small flame over a larger area. Also, normal explosions ignite the gas.

So, do you like the idea?

Really cool!!! I don't think any one has ever thought of that! However, how would a liquid pile up like a solid? Maybe like bouncy dirt is all I can think of.

Ya, maybe I should edit that in there...I forgot to say how it spreads like bouncy dirt with the bubbles.

I like that idea, it would be really cool ! :)

That's a pretty cool idea, but what if you hit it with a nuke? Does it ignite it or does it just blow up?

The idea is cool; it seems to fall under the "different types of terrain" thought, which I might like the idea of.

Now here is a good idea! Which can further be exploited by making gasoline-weapons similar to molten plastic, which would result in a bigger flame. How about if a person is stuck in a tight space (e.g. funnel), I think it would be a good idea if the gasoline would pile up in the same volume as it would if it were to spread. If it covers the player and he/she shoots his weapon in the gas he/she explodes...or something.

Great idea :).

PJ_69: like I mentioned before, gasoline is in no way a solid. if Mike made that possible, this game has broken all ties with reality.
I voted the best way to vote in the poll.

Gasoline is not a solid, your point? If you have a enclosed space, let's say a bucket, and you pour water into it, were can it go? Nowhere, depending on the size of the bucket and the amount you pour in the water will gain height.

Now let's say you pour water on a solid surface outside (or wherever). It will follow and downwards slope. Let's say we have a 10 meter long hill with a sewer grate at the bottom. Let's compare this to the pocket tanks game. If you use any water/fire/ice bomb near the side of the screen the substance will go off the screen and be gone, just like the water will be gone if you pour it at the top of the hill and it goes into the sewer grate. Now if there was a hole in the hill the water will go into the hole and not make it to the sewer. If you have enough water you can fill the hole up.

Do you understand what I am trying to say?

Well, what I'm trying to say is that when the black-gasoline-bubbles go over the terrain, it soaks the terrain, not just a liquid on top of the terrain...this changes the terrain, not make new dirt.

@Everlast: Explosions ignite the gas.

Oh, so if the dirt were to go to the bottom it would be like the other dirt? (disappear).

Well now that I know that I have a new idea.

Put in better physics for the game (i.e. make liquid stackable inside holes)

pretty good Idea. maybe it could be randomly placed in the terrain

The current engine (from what I heard, and guess) couldn't do that and you'd need to wait a LONG time for another update. The maps too would need to be redone and such. I'm for the idea. Everybody in favor say "I."

I haven't played in a while because I bought a new computer, but doesn't hail storm 'pile up' in a hole doing more damage? Just curious. If yes then the gas could act like the hailstorm, except no damage is done and it stays in one place until someone blows it up.

But there really is no point in seriously discussing this, seeing as how the actual creators make the final decision.

Yes, it does flow into low parts of the terrain.

hail storm doesnt stack up like water. it bounces through itself. wish it did stack tho.

btw, brilliant idea. but gasoline wouldn't work in real life, it would hav to be napalm. gasoline would filter through the dirt, and get soaked up. napalm is jellyfied gasoline, so it wouldnt soak up. +it does ignite... (but thats real life, my bad)

Well it would soak up and the dirt would contain gasoline. If ignite the dirt would burn no? Besides, games don't always have to be exact replicates of real life, look at aqua bomb, it doesn't get sucked into the dirt.

Hey, that gave me an idea, the gasoline could soak into the ground like regular water and change the dirt however deep into a corrosive dirt.

How about C4?

You can pile that up because its not a liquid.

I like this idea. I really do. If it's possible, then do it! I would prefer that it act like bouncy dirt for spreading though.
